About

SBGMI was founded out of a desire to see an alternative to the permeation of prophylactic and systemic chemical treatment education and practice for mites (Varroa destructor) in modern beekeeping. The simple objective is to equip beekeepers with knowledge to reduce the dependence on these toxic interventions and facilitate sustainable beekeeping that trends toward better bred bees. We strive to ensure our members receive the support, resources, and opportunities needed to prosper along with their bees. This conference serves to bring together those who know, those who want to grow, and those curious about the path toward treatment-free beekeeping and sustainability in their own apiary!

Mission:

A collaborative and thoughtful mission fostered through education and intelligent dialog and practice that will carry out natural management of honeybees in Michigan. Utilizing scientific principles grounded in naturalist theory whilst promoting the chief end of a chemical-free and sustainable method of beekeeping and honey making.

Our chief objective is to foster and develop a region of local genetics focused on raising, exchanging, and utilizing local resources. The guild will focus on education, fostering, and support of hobbyists and sideliners to propagate local sustainable survivor honeybee genetics and improved drone breeding populations that complement chemical free and survival queen rearing practices.

Although open to beekeepers, hobbyists, sideliners, and the rest, SBGMI primarily discourages prophylactic use of chemical treatments and defers to physical or mechanical manipulations and interventions first.

The ultimate end resulting in a culture striving to increase local colony resilience to pathogens, diseases, and reduce the risk and occurrence of treatment resistance in Varroa destructor Mites and other honeybee maladies.
